"Only three days before the Comp Ken Brown had a mild heart attack which scared both him and his friends"

Congratulations, boys, but isn't that doing it the hard way?
The Boys from Palmerston Ken Brown, John Goodger and Anthony Stafford give the boys in Broome a real run for their money when they competed in the annual Broome Bilfish Classic. Not everything went the boy's way before OR after the competition. Only three days before the Comp Ken Brown had a mild heart attack which scared both him and his friends. (if you knew Brownie well you would see that he should really not be a candidate - he's only about nine stone ringing wet.)
He almost didn't enter into the comp because of it. After the comp had ended he got on a plane and flew to Adelaide for his bi-pass operation. During the comp John Goodger fell ill and spent most of the comp in Hospital leaving Ken and Anthony to man the vessel. On the first day of competing they sank the tender at the beach on the way out to the big boat. Ken said "it was so rough that day a wave just come over the 10 footer and swamped us".

Ken said "the comp was a real buzz to fish in. The atmosphere and relaxed environment reminded me a lot of the Barra Nationals." Ken said he competed against 30 teams in the Broome Billfish Classic which ran for 5 days and 17 extra teams on the last day which was Faty's Memorial Day. Ken came home with First Sail Caught on Lure and Champion Male Angler with 3000 points. Team Stressless (that's a joke!) ( Ken, Anthony and John) Won Champion Interstate Team with 3500 points. Ken caught 6 sails and Anthony caught 1.

Anthony said he lost a lot of sails to bad hookups. He said it is a lot different to the fishing he does around Darwin and enjoyed it immensely. The comp was fished with 10kg line and teams from all over Australia competed. Just goes to show good fisherman not only fish well in their own backyard but do well in others as well. Or it just goes to show how a lot of skill and a little bit of luck can win you comps anywhere in Australia.
